What Error 510 Means

Error 510 indicates that an internal sensor within the drive unit has returned a value outside its valid range or failed to respond during the self-test. These sensors are sealed within the drive unit and are not accessible without opening the motor — a dealer-only procedure on all current Bosch platforms.

Self-Checks Before Visiting a Dealer

Firmware Update

A known bug in several Bosch CX Gen3 firmware versions caused spurious error 510 events related to torque sensor baseline drift. Apply any available firmware update before concluding hardware has failed.

Temperature Test

If error 510 appears only after extended high-power riding, an internal temperature sensor may be reporting a thermal event prematurely. Allow the motor to cool for 20 minutes and retest under moderate conditions.

Power Cycle

Remove battery for 60 seconds. Reinstall and test. Transient calibration errors during startup can produce one-time error 510 events.

Dealer Resolution

Persistent error 510 requires the DiagnosticsTool 3 to identify which specific internal sensor has failed. Drive unit replacement is the typical outcome.
