What Error 418 Means
Error 418 indicates that one or more buttons on the display or remote have been detected as disabled or not responding to activation. Where error 410 covers a stuck-on button state, error 418 covers the opposite — a button that registers as permanently inactive.
Common Causes
- Contamination preventing button activation — Heavy mud filling the button recess can prevent physical depression.
- Damaged button mechanism — A cracked button cap or collapsed actuator spring prevents the button from reaching the contact beneath.
- Failed PCB contact — A degraded or corroded contact pad on the display PCB stops the button from registering.
- Waterlogged membrane — Water behind the button membrane can cause it to swell shut, blocking actuation.
Fix Procedure
Step 1: Clean the Button Area
Use compressed air and a soft brush to clear any debris from around each button. Follow with isopropyl alcohol to dissolve any residue.
Step 2: Test Button Response
Power on and attempt to activate the affected button. On Smart System, the eBike Flow app shows live button state in the diagnostics section.
Step 3: Dry the Display
If water ingress is suspected, leave the display in a warm dry environment for 24 hours before retesting.
Step 4: Replace the Display
A permanently non-responsive button that cannot be cleaned back to function requires display replacement.
